The problem
Payroll mistakes cost trust fast. Missing hours get noticed by the employee on payday; padded hours often don't get noticed at all. Checking every timesheet against the schedule is the job nobody has time for on payroll day.
What Cowork does
- A task the day before each payroll reads hours for the period from Gusto through its official connector.
- It reads scheduled visits per tech from Jobber for the same days.
- It flags days with visits but no hours, hours with no visits, and overtime above the owner's threshold.
- It emails the office manager a short list to check.
Where the draft lands
One email before each payroll.
What stays with you
Fixing timesheets and running payroll. Gusto payroll in Claude is staged, not submitted, so a person always submits it.
Check before Friday's run:
Lee, Tue Oct 7: 3 visits scheduled, 0 hours logged.
Ray, Thu Oct 9: 4.5 hours logged, no visits (shop day?).
Overtime above 45 hrs: Sam (48), Lee (46).
Watch-outs
- Shop time, training and drive time don't show up as visits. Expect false flags until the rules are tuned.
- If hours live in Jobber timesheets instead of Gusto, read them through Composio, if available.
Questions owners ask
Can it run payroll?
Gusto says eligible customers can run payroll in Claude, but payroll should stay a deliberate human step. This idea only checks.
We use QuickBooks Payroll.
QuickBooks Payroll isn't covered by the official QuickBooks connector description we checked. Test before relying on it.
