Thank-you notes to the people who refer you

Each week, Cowork finds new leads that came from a referral and drafts a short thank-you to the person who sent them, so referrers hear back while it still means something.

For: Most trade shops and small officesBy John DietrichUpdated

The problem

Referrals are the cheapest leads a small business gets, and the people who send them rarely hear a thank-you. Many owners would happily send one; they just don't know who referred whom by the time the job is done.

What Cowork does

  1. A weekly task reads new Jobber requests or CRM leads where the source is a referral.
  2. It finds the referrer's contact in Jobber, HubSpot or the inbox.
  3. It drafts a short personal thank-you from the owner, and a second note when the referred job is completed.
  4. It keeps a referral sheet so the owner can see who sends the most work.

Where the draft lands

Thank-you drafts and a referral sheet.

What stays with you

Sending, and any gift or referral fee (check your state and industry rules first).

Hi Diane, thank you for sending the Nguyens our way. It means a lot that you'd trust us with friends. We'll take good care of them. Rachel

Watch-outs

  • Referral payments are regulated in some industries (real estate, insurance, law). Thank-you notes are fine; check before paying anyone.
  • Don't tell the referrer details of the job without the customer's OK.

Questions owners ask

Is this worth it for a few referrals a month?

It takes almost no time once set up, and referrers notice.

Can it send a gift card?

Not on its own. Decide that yourself.
